Deck Safety is Everyone’s Business!
NADRA’s Deck Safety Campaign creates an opportunity to: Educate. Inspect. Correct; ultimately, helping to prevent injuries and bringing an awareness to the importance of regular deck inspections.
“Your roof has a life expectancy. Your windows have a life expectancy. What about your deck?” Says Michael Beaudry, executive vice president of NADRA. “Consider the snowfall accumulations from just this past year. These heavy loads cause additional stress on outdoor structures and create a need to evaluate. It’s time to Check Your Deck®!”
Each year, NADRA raises awareness about the importance of checking your deck through a national deck safety campaign.

10 Point Checklist
A deck is a wonderful place to unwind and entertain. Each season you MUST check your deck before using it with your family. Before beginning work, check to see if any building codes apply to your work and if permits or inspections are required. If you can’t access parts of your deck or don’t feel comfortable doing the inspection yourself, contact a professional deck builder. The steps below describe some basic areas of inspection. For a complete check of your deck, have it inspected by a professional.
This detailed evaluation will help assess your deck and help identify any areas of concern. This checklist is meant to assist in the evaluation of the deck. It is always recommended that a professional inspector be called to assess the deck structure.
Ensure that you take the time to research the companies you are asking to perform a deck safety inspection. These evaluations take time and require proper training.

"Something just did not feel right on our deck so I called our local DeckStar, and upon his inspection, we quickl were told to stay off the deck until proper repairs were made. Kevin, quickly responded to our needs, and kept us safe from a tragedy that was waiting to happen. Thank you Kevin, and thank you DeckStars."

"We decided to hire a tradesman from Kijiji only to be left with half a railing system and a deck that was not built to code. We reached out to DeckStars and the local rep came out the next day and assessed the deck. He quickly called the manufacturer, got us the right parts and connected us with a certified installer. Service like this is hard to find. We finally have our dream deck. Thank you DeckStars!"
